About Peninsula Health
Peninsula Health provides public healthcare services to residents of the Mornington Peninsula. Peninsula Health are seeking an experienced Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2. The RPN is a valued and integral member of t the Peninsula Health multidisciplinary team demonstrating flexibility in caring for clients and their carers/families across the organisation. The RPN supports the Associate Nurse Unit Manger (ANUM) to provide quality care to the clients of the Psychiatric Assessment and Planning Unit (PAPU).

Our hospitals and emergency departments are located at Frankston and Rosebud, and we provide a wide range of community health, dental, rehabilitation, mental health, palliative care ad aged care services from campuses at Frankston, Hastings, Mornington and Rosebud.

Position Summary
About Psychiatric Assessment and Planning Unit (PAPU)

The PAPU is a 24 hour, 7 days a week mental health short stay assessment and planning unit for the provision of accelerated access to specialist psychiatric assessment and short term treatment to better address planning and partnering support arrangements for the client back in the community on discharge.
Ideally the care provided should be of less than 72 hours to allow for the determination of appropriate clinical pathways.
The PAPU emphasis incorporates suicide prevention and provides support for clients who are at risk of self-harming.
The role of the six bed PHMHS PAPU is to ensure that clients receive timely access to short term assessment and planning care and treatment where required and to minimise the need for an acute inpatient stay by ensuring that clients can be adequately and appropriately supported in the community.

Duties:
• Undertake any additional tasks as requested that reasonably fall within the scope of the position and classification.
• Recognise, respond and escalate changes in the patient’s condition.
• Support staff to deliver optimum evidenced based person centred care.
• Appropriately managing bed allocation and maintaining patient flow.
• Promote and support effective discharge planning.
• Proactively support staff in identifying and managing clinical risk.
• Recognise and respond to unsafe or unprofessional practice.
• Ensure accurate completion of documentation.


Skills and Experience:
• Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
• Professional nursing qualification including post graduate qualification in mental health.
• Prepares written documentation using clear, concise and grammatically correct language.
• Clearly and confidently communicates with key contacts and welcomes constructive feedback.
• Supports individuals and the team, delegating responsibilities appropriately.
• Understands the issues and pressures to which the organisation has to respond.
• Seeks all relevant information for problem solving.
• Identifies and supports where necessary the need for change.
