About the Role:

The Research Officer will manage the implementation of the cohort study within the LifeSpan project. The role will be responsible for managing internal and external stakeholders, recruitment of respondents, ethics approvals and amendments, data collection and analysis, and day-to-day management to ensure the study's success.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a project management plan for the Cohort study and be responsible for rolling out this plan
  • Manage the strategy for recruiting, supporting and retaining participants in the study
  •  Liaise with external stakeholders (e.g. emergency department personnel, carer and bereavement support group personnel) to recruit participants.
  • Liaise with the LifeSpan Implementation Managers and trial sites to contribute to implementation plans ensuring coordination of activities.
  • Liaise with the LifeSpan Research Manager who will be managing the coordination of research activities for LifeSpan.
  • Travel to sites in NSW to conduct qualitative interviews with people who have presented to the ED for a suicide-related presentation, carers and those bereaved by suicide, and recruit and manage interviewers for more remote LifeSpan sites.
  • Undertake basic analysis of research data and prepare summary reports for participants and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with maintaining ethics applications for a longitudinal cohort study for people who have presented to the ED for a suicide-related presentation, carers and those bereaved by suicide (Cohort Study).
  • Assist with the development of research material for the Cohort Study.
  • Assist with the application for, and analysis of primary health care linked data sets.
  • Assist with  management of longitudinal data collection.
  • Maintain sensitivity to clinical issues
  • Assistance with the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the Black Dog Institute and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others

Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • Postgraduate degree in clinical psychology or the social sciences
  • Knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
  • Demonstrated statistical analysis skills
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining ethics applications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a large team
  • Demonstrated experience with trial management and participant recruitment
  • Demonstrated experience in psychological assessment and sensitivity to clinical issues
  • A knowledge of EEO principles and OH&S responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant OH&S training.

Desirable

  • Experience working with EDs / healthcare systems
  • Experience in the not for profit sector.
