The role provides short term family relationship counselling to people struggling with personal and interpersonal issues related to relationships. These issues may involve, separation, divorce and issues relating to the care of children in accordance with obligations of Family Counsellors specified by the Family Law Act.      Additionally, counselling women and men with a focus on family violence to support any person who has been involved in family violence will be provided.

Family relationship counsellors maintain a child-focus and utilise a systemic and whole of family approach. Counselling in this role requires expertise in childhood development and family dynamics, and ability to assist people to address issues such as trauma, violence and abuse, parenting concerns, stress and anxiety; separation and divorce, blended family structures.
