Where you will be working
 
Wagga Wagga Base Hospital (WWBH) is one of the busiest rural hospitals in NSW with 300 beds over 40,000 emergency presentations, 1,100 births and approximately 11,000 operations each year.  With the new hospital being built in 2016. WWBH provides medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric, rehabilitation, and mental health acute and sub-acute inpatient services.  Specialties include cardiovascular, gastroenterology, renal medicine, obstetrics, orthopaedics, psychiatry and paediatrics. There is also the provision of a full range of allied health and support services.

What you will be doing
 
The Clinical Coder is responsible for the efficient and effective coding of inpatient separations using latest edition of ICD-10-AM. This position demands good time management skills to meet coding deadlines using the hybrid medical record. 

Clinical Coder is required to assign accurate and timely clinical codes to episodes of care through analysis of clinical documentation using the appropriate version of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM), applying Australian Coding Standards.
 
Selection Criteria

  • Completion of a recognized clinical coding course (HIMAA preferred).
  • Demonstrated competence in clinical classification using the latest edition of ICD-10-AM and thorough knowledge of Australian Coding Standards and demonstrated coding accuracy and throughput.
  • Experience working with a Patient administration / reporting system.
