The Role

We currently have multiple opportunities across various sites for Medical Officers who would like to work Full Time, Part Time or Casually. The positions on offer are for Medical Officers (hours negotiable) to work in our correctional healthcare centres amongst some of our Metropoliton regions in Melbourne, Victoria. These facilities may include but are not limited to; Metropolitan Remand Centre, Ravenhall Prison, MAP and Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.

The Medical Officer is primarily responsible for the provision and supervision of medical care to prisoners, providing medical input to clinically related matters and the evaluation of medical programs and services.

Requirements for the role include a mature outlook and sound interpersonal skills that enable appropriate communication with patients in a correctional environment; the ability to provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment, and the ability to work collaboratively with nursing staff, under minimal supervision.  

To be considered for this opportunity you must demonstrate:

  • Minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience,
  • Evidence of working in environments with minimal supervision
  • Fully registered by AHPRA

Whilst experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous it is not mandatory.  We are interested in hearing from all interested medical practitioners as we are happy to support training for the right individuals:

  • experience in mental health, sexual health, drug and alcohol, emergency care and general practice
  • experience with Hepatitis C treatment
  • experience with and training in Opioid Substitution Therapies
  • section 100 Prescriber (HIV)
  • Methadone Prescriber
