Firefighters make direct contributions to the Fire Service’s mission to protect life, property, the environment and our economy from fire and other emergencies. Not only providing high quality response to emergencies but also taking pro-active measures such as identifying risks to the community and taking part in effective preventative and educational programs. 

The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service is seeking applications from individuals who possess the following characteristics:

• sound literacy and numeracy skills;
• sufficient basic physical strength and the capacity for rapid, intense and sustained effort;
• the self-discipline to be able to accept and carry out orders;
• a sympathetic and caring approach towards the victims of emergencies, together with the mental fortitude to continue working in sometimes harrowing circumstances.

Commencement salary as a Recruit Firefighter is $50,227 per annum for the duration of the 14 week (estimated) Recruit Course.  On commencement of shift, salary increases to $74,028 per annum (including penalties).
