Senior Officer - Sheep and Goat Traceability Compliance

• $95,275 - $115,276 (Plus Superannuation)
• Fixed Term - 3 Years

The position of Senior Officer - Sheep and Goat Traceability Compliance forms a part of the Agriculture Victoria division, Biosecurity and Agriculture Services branch within the Employment, Investment and Trade group.

The Senior Officer Sheep and Goat Traceability Compliance provides operational leadership for the delivery of the Sheep and Goat Traceability Compliance for the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources (DEDJTR). The primary purpose of this position is to:

• Provide strategic direction and leadership across the Animal Health and Welfare (AHW) Unit in the delivery of the of the Traceability for Market Access Project for sheep and goat traceability that will enhance outcomes for the Victorian livestock industries;
• Lead the development of operational programs for improved sheep and goat traceability compliance, through the application of risk based compliance principles and the development and execution of operating procedures;
• Provide strategic and project leadership and guidance to Regional Managers to support animal health operational staff ensuring the quality delivery of the Traceability for Market Access Project for sheep and goat electronic identification; and
• Provide authoritative advice and reports to DEDJTR and industry groups on the delivery of sheep and goat traceability particular as it relates to new electronic identification (eID) requirements.

This position will collaborate with Regional Managers and other program leaders in the development and implementation of projects and standards for livestock traceability through sheep and goat electronic identification.

The position will supervise three Leading Animal Health Officers who deliver compliance programs in the regions including developing capability and building a culture focused on quality and results. As part of an integrated and flexible business model within the Biosecurity & Agriculture Services Branch, you may also provide support to other programs.

As this is a regulatory position, you will be required to conduct investigations and appear in court.  This position has responsibilities under the Livestock Disease Control Act 1994 (all livestock), the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986, the Stock (Seller Liability and Declaration) Act 1993, the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemical (Control of Use) Act 1992, the Food Act 1984 and the Livestock Management Act 2010. 

Mandatory: An appropriate tertiary degree in Science, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Science or an equivalent science qualification.
