Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.
Completed in 2017, the new medium-security men's prison is built at Ravenhall in Melbourne's west, providing world-class forensic mental health services in Victoria.
The new forensic mental health beds are located in a purpose built state of the art facility developed to international best practice standards.

 

About the role:

This Occupational Therapy position is based across the acute and sub-acute units of the forensic mental health units at Ravenhall Correctional Centre.

The role of the Occupational Therapist is to plan, implement, evaluate and document Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment, as a member of the multi-disciplinary team; including providing leadership to the unit group program.

Promotion of the benefits of participation and performance in meaningful occupations through liaison, collaboration and consultation with key stakeholders and external service provider, is also a component of the role.

 

Duties:

  • Assess, interpret and intervene to improve patients’ occupational performance.
  • Contribute to the creation of a therapeutic environment on the units.
  • Focus on the development of life roles and skills required by patients for community adaptation.
  • Encourage and facilitate the involvement of patients in the planning of individual and program based programs and promotes self-advocacy opportunities. 

  

Qualification, skills and experience:

  • Current Registration with AHPRA.
  • Approved degree in Occupational Therapy and recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and a commitment to working in a manner consistent with the code.
  • Conceptual understanding of the theories of occupational performance and occupational models of intervention.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • Demonstrated skills in the mental health field, knowledge and understanding of the current occupational therapy approaches in working with mentally ill people.
