Illawarra Coal is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.
The Opportunity – Manager Mining Engineering – Appin
Based at our Appin site, we currently seek an experienced Manager Mining Engineering. This role is responsible for the control and management of all underground mining operations in accordance with current Health and Safety Management systems and relevant statutory legislation.
Key Accountabilities include:
- Developing, supervising and monitoring mining engineering standards and procedures forming part of mining operations at the mine
- Implementing, controlling and the ongoing review of safe coal mining operations consistent with current WHS management systems and relevant legislation
- Demonstrating and leading with a view to visible safety leadership in the workplace.
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with key external stakeholders to include government officials and major contractors.
- Demonstrate compliance to the mine operating system (MOS) including disciplined planning, delivery, accountability and urgency.
- Implementing regular audits of the mine to assess compliance with required statutory and South32 standards.
- Communicating with and providing relevant information to statutory authorities

- Mining Manager Certificate
- Advanced Diploma of Underground Coal Mining Management
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Proven experience in a similar role in an Underground Coal Mine
- Strong Leadership Capabilities
- Ability to effectively communicate and influence stakeholders
