Our Advisory unit (comprising our Environment & Planning Team) is currently seeking a Principal Contaminated Sites Specialist to join and grow our team based in the Sydney central business district.

This is the perfect opportunity for a consulting expert to stay hands-on while building your leadership career and developing a team around you. This position requires someone with passion and energy to manage and grow the business, whilst leading and coordinating environmental investigations, contaminated land assessments and remediation projects.

Joining a small team will require you to be versatile and happy to roll your sleeves up to deliver projects, work collaboratively across business lines, manage the day-to-day business and explore growth opportunities for the business.

You will have the freedom to develop the Australian Contaminated land service while working closely with other Environment & Planning specialists in our Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney offices, leveraging your client relationships to secure and deliver projects for the team.

Reporting to the NSW Section Manager you are responsible for:

  • Building and leading the delivery of projects;
  • Developing, mentoring, and supporting a small team of professionals;
  • Profitable performance for the NSW Contaminated Land team;
  • Business development and maintaining excellent client relationships; and
  • Ensuring the investigation, remediation and validation of contaminated sites in accordance with relevant legislation and company policy;

About you

For success in the role, ideally you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a related science or engineering field
  • Extensive experience (>15 years) working in a professional services business and project managing contaminated land and/or remediation projects
  • Good knowledge of NSW / Qld / VIC State & Federal Government legislation relating to land contamination and waste management
  • Good understanding of principles of environmental assessment and management
  • Track record working in PFAS and urban infrastructure projects
  • Certified under either the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand’s Certified Environmental Practitioner (Site Contamination) scheme (CEnvP(SC)) or the Soil Science Australia Certified Professional Soil Scientist Contaminated Site Assessment and Management (CPSS CSAM) scheme.
  • An ability to build business and prepare tenders
  • A current driver's license.

Certified auditor status in NSW / Qld / VIC (or demonstrable progress in achieving this qualification) would be a distinct advantage.
