GFG Alliance has an agile, entrepreneurial culture with high energy, strong levels of ambition, and sustainable growth plans. This brings opportunities for GFG’s people and businesses to flourish and develop.  We work with our people to determine how we can grow our business and our future.  We are committed to uncompromising levels of safety, strong customer centricity and diversity. Wherever they are in the world, our people are our greatest asset. We welcome you to join us.

SIMEC Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFG Alliance, operates out of South Australia’s Middleback Ranges in Whyalla consisting of three primary sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges (SMR). The magnetite iron ore from these sites is pelletised at our Pellet Plant and the hematite ore is loaded at our ports for export, all located within Whyalla Steelworks site in Whyalla.  Whyalla is a diverse community and so is our workforce.  Additionally, we have recently acquired the Tahmoor Coal Mine in NSW so our commodity portfolio expands in line with the opportunities presented by our business.

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a fixed term 18 months contract for our Pellet Plant’s Operations. Reporting to the Analysis & Improvement Manager, you will primarily be responsible for identifying and executing key improvement opportunities in the plant. This will include identifying root causes of production limitations, developing solutions and being involved in the planning and execution of rectification works within planned maintenance shutdowns.

This role will also provide technical support to the maintenance and operations teams within the plant, supporting a successful maintenance regime within the plant, ensuring a high level of equipment availability for the sustainment of a stable and efficient plant.

Our ideal candidate will possess tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering and experience working in materials handling, processing, mining, or a heavy industry environment. You will have a demonstrated experience in development and execution of plant modifications.  Equally important will be your knowledge of maintenance systems and related philosophies, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to communicate with a variety of technical stakeholders and ability to work autonomously towards set project goals.  Knowledge of and experience in the use of SAP is highly desirable, as will an understanding of root cause analysis and scheduling skills.

Across our different business units, we offer career opportunities for people who share our drive, passion and ambition.  From apprentices and graduates to experienced professionals, we are committed to offering fulfilling careers and the chance to grow as our business grows.   We would love you to be part of our journey.  Visit our website today and define your new career.
