The Naval Architect (General Design) is responsible for supporting platform engineering design across Navantia Australia’s DDG sustainment program. 

The ideal candidate will:

• Ensure best practice engineering design principles are applied to Navantia Australia’s engineering solutions.
• Undertake General Design and Naval architecture activities across the assigned project within the engineering team, involving compartment definitions, load conditions, general design arrangements, weight management and control, trim and stability, inclining experiments, compartment and access drawings, escape and evacuation routes definition, etc.
• Be capable to manage and execute drawings issuance and revisions, dealing with technical queries, supporting design decisions in a technical risk base, supporting certification processes for requirement compliance, etc. 
• Have the ability to handle technical shipbuilding related regulations: MIL, STANAG, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class Societies regulations.
• Develop and manage strong customer relationships.
• Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

To join our crew you will have:

• Honours degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Marine, Naval).
• Demonstrated knowledge of Naval engineering.
• Significant experience in maintenance management.
• Proven skills and experience in complex design projects.
• Experience working in the Defence environment.
• Significant relevant experience in design/maintenance activities.
• Excellent project management skills.
• Very strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high pressure environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and with our clients.
• Australian citizenship and be eligible for obtaining an AGSVA Defence Security Clearance to a minimum of Baseline.
