FLEW is a Brisbane based R&D business that takes pure science, demonstrates that it can be engineered, and then finds partners in the relevant industry work with to take the technology to a commercial reality. FLEW develops advanced manufacturing ideas into products particularly focused on photon and electron beam technologies such as laser welding, additive manufacturing and radiation shielding.

Role:

This is a 4-week contract with possibility to extend. An ideal position for First Year Graduates who are passionate about 3D printing.

The Junior Engineer reports to the Managing Director and will assist with the production of 3D printed radiation protection shields.

The Junior Engineer will use their understanding of mechatronics and electronics systems to assist in design, documentation, bench testing and full system commissioning.

The Junior Engineer will communicate with, and work with other members of the FLEW engineering team and under the supervision of the Production Manager and Senior Engineers to design and document industrial systems and processes.

Responsibilities:

The Junior Engineer Responsibilities are to:

  • Assist in all stages of production including setting 3D printers, assuring Quality Control over 3D printed components, preparing production documentation and other production processes,
  • Contribute to detailed requirements and specification development so that final design and construction of the products subcomponents can take place in a distributed manner,
  • Ensure the design meets requirements as agreed by FLEW and the client,
  • Ensure the Production Manager is aware of key issues in relation to the production,
  • Partake in detailed design, fabrication commissioning and bench testing in a hands-on manner,
  • Be proactive about safety, process and system improvement.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required for this role.
  • No work experience required.
  • Must have experience with generating 3D models from CAD packages and generating G-Code from slicing software (for fun or study).
