Your new role

As part of delivering the Curtin Oil and Gas Innovation Centre strategy, a rare opportunity exists for a Senior Research Fellow to develop predictive tools that can be applied to processes in exploration and production relevant to the resources industry.

Using the resources available and your in-depth knowledge of data analysis and geosciences, you will develop and implement data analytical methods and new generation technologies to automate, monitor and use "big data" to be more predictive and forward looking in decision-making processes.

This is a position of extreme significance within the Faculty of Science and Engineering and will be part of Curtin's wider AI and ML research community within the Curtin Institute for Computation, will be embedded within the established Applied Geology discipline, and will interact with the broader Geophysics and Petroleum Engineering communities, complementing their skills with your experience.

The role involves

  • working with existing public domain data sets, developing projects in collaboration with colleagues in Computational Sciences, Geology, Geophysics and Petroleum Engineering.
  • using your in-depth subject matter knowledge to enable innovative technologies and deliver industry impact as well as scientific publications.
  • supervising PhD and Honours students

This position will be based at the COGIC embedded with the Applied Geology team located on the Bentley Campus of Curtin University. The position will involve engaging with collaborators, industry partners both locally and internationally and developing funding proposals.

This role may require some teaching activities.

You will bring to this role

  • A doctoral qualification relevant to data analytics and geosciences
  • The technical skills to develop and implement data analytical methods and to adapt next generation technologies
  • An excellent research track record, with the capacity to both lead and enable scientific impact and publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • A commitment to open and supportive collaboration and the development of a collegial and supportive working environment.
  • The ability to attract competitive grant funding.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.

What we offer you

The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers exciting career paths and trajectories including

  • conducting innovative work that will make real-world difference
  • interactions with and learnings from industry, government and academic partners
  • international recognition

The salary ranges presented are those which are contained within the University's Enterprise Agreements; as are the employee benefits which include employer superannuation contribution at the rate of the current Government Superannuation Guarantee amount up to 17 percent, study assistance, a comprehensive salary packaging and wellness programs and flexible and family friendly work practices.

What we need from you

You are encouraged to respond specifically to the selection criteria.

Please note, screening and interviews may take place prior to the advertised close date.
