CPM is the company behind Sino Iron, already Australia’s largest magnetite operation, located on Western Australia’s Pilbara coast, south of Karratha.

The Opportunity

CITIC Pacific Mining is requires an experienced Contracts Specialist to join our Perth based Contracts team. This position is offered on a 12 month Fixed term contract with genuine scope for renewal. Although this search is primarily for an experienced Contracts Specialist, we are open to negotiating a Senior Contracts Specialist role with applicants who demonstrate requisite experience and qualification befitting such a role.

Reporting to a Lead Contracts Specialist and/or Contracts Superintendent, you will be involved in the development and ongoing management of key procurement activities within an assigned contract portfolio. You will help develop comprehensive and robust "go to market" strategies and tender methodologies for each requirement. You will also assist with the development, implementation and management of procurement and contracting strategies to ensure the timely delivery of goods, services and works (projects) to meet the company's maintenance, production and capital project requirements.

We seek applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who have demonstrated knowledge in the following areas:

  • Experience in a similar role, preferably within the resources sector (or equivalent)
  • A proven track record in the development and management of a broad range of goods, services and works contracts (including but not limited to, the development of sourcing strategies, tendering, adjudication, effective negotiation, drafting, award and ongoing commercial management)
  • A solid understanding of contractual terms and demonstrated success in contract negotiations, including dispute / claim resolution and managing contractor and internal stakeholder relationships
  • Committed to the achievement of individual, team and company objectives consistent with agreed values and behaviours in a customer-service focused environment
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project);

Previous experience with ERP-based contract management systems and procure-to-pay processes.

A Bachelor's degree in Law, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering or related disciplines is a desired requirement for the position as is experience with SAP's Ariba Contract Management Solution.

You will have well-developed oral and written communication skills and the ability to engage with all levels of the business in a professional and courteous manner.

You will have a good grasp and awareness of commercial and legal risks, and be able to identify, eliminate and/or minimise and manage these risks to an acceptable level. You will have the ability to think on your feet, and give effective advice and propose practical solutions, in a highly dynamic environment.

Day to day responsibilities:

· Provide advice and assistance with respect to the preparation of tender packages and contract documents;

· Manage / facilitate the tender process, evaluation of tender proposals and subsequent negotiations (including contract variations), whilst ensuring appropriate probity during the tender and award of contracts;

· Award and administer contracts in compliance with CPM policies and procedures.

· Investigate and seek early resolution to tendering and contracting issues or disputes;

· Identify and create opportunities for cost reduction and value adding when entering into preferred supplier arrangements;

· Conduct negotiations and provide commercial input for the development, implementation and management of contracts;

· Prepare / present contract award recommendations and compile formal contract documentation;

· Manage contractor and internal stakeholder relationships and monitor contract performance; and

· Liaise with Senior Management, site-based Production / Maintenance Departments, Legal Department, Finance Department and Contracts Department personnel, with respect to contract related matters.

Other requirements

  • A copy of all current qualifications / licences must be provided at the time of interview.
  • Bilingual capabilities are preferred and will be looked upon favourably (Mandarin/English).
