From humble beginnings almost 70 years ago, John Holland has been driving positive change in Australia, and is now one of the nation’s leading infrastructure and property companies.

We work in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia offering services from infrastructure and property development, to rail and building.

By finding solutions to complex challenges, we transform communities to make them easier to move around, more connected and better to live in.

An opportunity has become available for a Tunnel Manager to join our South East Queensland based team on a major tunnelling (Pipe jack) project.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Manage on-site engineering and technical functions with a team of Project and Site Engineers (pipe jacking and TBM specific activities).
  • Oversee the transition from design into detailed design, construction specifications and methodology, ensuring the project is well planned (100-day program) and delivered ‘right first time’ to specification, within budget and on time.
  • To plan and carry out engineering / construction activities to ensure that project activities are planned to achieve program requirements.
  • Lead the team to ensure all engineering and technical requirements are delivered by Providing technical advice and solutions.

  • Liaising with key stakeholders (Asset owners, Consultants, Sub-Contractors, Authorities).
  • Implementation and monitoring of technical specifications, applicable legislation, approvals, standards and JHG SQE Risk Management process.
  • To ensure budgetary (responsible for cost management and forecasting) and programming schedules are met in accordance with contract conditions.

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Experience of managing significant contact values to successful project completion (safety, time, quality, stakeholder relations) within a top tier or specialised sub-contractor.
  • Management of establishing and delivering extensive Pipejacking and tunnelling excavation activities, preferably in a CBD environment (TBM knowledge highly preferable).
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge in pipe jacking and underground construction.
  • Minimum 8 years delivery experience in civil infrastructure with excellent attention to detail in all areas of work.
  • Ability to develop strong rapport with Supervisory team and sub-contractors/suppliers.
  • Strong self-management and experience of leading more junior Engineers.
  • Degree qualified Civil Engineer.
