About the Company

Our client is a manufacturer of commercial grade aluminium windows and doors, supplied to the building and construction industry for medium to large projects such as, apartments and commercial developments as well as high end custom built homes

Due to exciting developments in our clients business structure and process, they are currently gearing up across all departments to meet an increased demand of their products.  Part of their expansion strategy is to increase the number of team members in the Estimating team.

The Role

As an Estimator you will be reporting to the Sales Manager or Senior Estimator working in a team of 6 to 8. The responsibilities of this role are standard Estimating where the Estimating process includes the following key steps and responsibilities;

• Receive a combination of the following project documents;
  • “Take Off” documents
  • Architectural Plans
  • Project Specifications
• Review Project documents to get an in-depth understanding of the project scope
• Review in detail the project Specifications of the Window & Door such as;
  • Acoustic specifications
  • Energy Specifications
  • Frame coating specifications
  • Warranty time frames
  • Installation is included or not
  • Delivery is included or not
• From the specifications, establish from our clients product range the options of products that meet the specifications which include;
  • Frame Type
  • Glass Type
  • Frame coating type
• From projects documents (hard copy or digital) which may include Architectural Plans or Project Take Offs calculate;
  • The number of windows and doors required
  • The varying sizes of the windows and doors
• Ensure that all sizing is within our clients manufacturing capabilities
• Using Excel, create a BOM list (Bill of Materials) where key information is entered such as;
  • Quantity
  • Measurements
  • Material types (frame & glass)
• If the installation makes up part of the project documents, calculate the estimate for the costs of installation ensuring that you have taken into consideration the following key information such as;
  • Project location
  • Access to the site
  • Size of the windows & doors and if additional installers will be required
  • If the building is over 2 stories, what will be required to install the windows & doors and if specialised equipment such as elevated platforms will be required
•  From the excel template enter the key information into the following software applications;
  • 3rd Party estimating software such as “Logical” or “V6”
  • In-house ERP (enterprise resource planning) software
• Review in detail all the estimate / quotation information ensuring that it is 100% accurate
• Create a quotation document from either the inhouse system or in-house templates
• Email the quotation to applicable team members such as the Senior Estimator and Manufacturing Manager for review
• If in house team members pick up any anomalies, variances or potential issues, liaises with these team members ensuring that any additional costs are addressed and imputed into the estimate documentation & quote

Apart from the above information, you will be liaising with key stakeholders within the company and with suppliers which will require you to be an effective communicator verbally and via written communications such as email.  The stakeholders that you may be liaising with regularly will include;

• Sales Manager
• Senior Estimator
• Estimating team members
• Manufacturing Manger
• Contract & Compliance Manager
• Administrators in various departments
• Key external suppliers
• Clients such as Project Managers and or Estimators

As an estimator you will be required to carry out your work to very high standards where 100% accuracy is essential in order to make sure that if projects are awarded to our client they do not have any unforeseen additional costs especially in product specifications, product quantities or installation expenses.

Having attention to detail will be as important as having high levels of productivity and efficiency where you will be given reasonable targets to meet from your supervisor. You will need to be able to use the various inhouse software effectively which is designed to make Estimating efficient.

The Candidate

Ideally, we are seeking a candidate that has at least 2 years experience as an Estimator in the window and door manufacturing industry, either with the residential or commercial manufactures.

Candidates that do not possess Estimating experience in Window and Door manufacture are still encouraged to apply especially those that have previous estimating experience or believe that their skill set is transferable to carry out the responsibilities of this role.

Candidates that possess the following work experience or skills will be considered;

• Possess at least 2 years in an Estimating role or similar in;
  • Building & Construction material or equipment supply
  • Mining or Oil Gas equipment or material
  • Building maintenance service
  • Manufacturing especially in aluminium or steel products
• Have worked in a role that is not Estimating but is transferable such as;
  • Project Management in Building & Construction
  • Procurement officer in Building & Construction or Manufacturing
  • Architect or Drafter that has a good understanding of Building & Construction materials as well as specifications and is able to interpreting architectural plans
  • Accounts or Contract Management in Building & Construction or Manufacture

You will also posses the following skills and traits;

• Have attention to detail and be able to follow strict systems and procedures
• Well developed numeracy skills, where you have the ability to interpret reports and spreadsheets
• Be able to interpret Architectural plans and plan scales in order to calculate measurements
• Experienced in negotiating, problem solving and decision making
• Be a team player that enjoys contributing to a shared goal
• Highly organized with the ability to quickly priorities work tasks regularly
• Be highly efficient and be able to work under tight deadlines
• Experience of working with ERP (enterprise resource planning) software
• Experience of working in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Have proficiency and accuracy in data entry 
• Have confidence to adapt to new systems and procedures

Remuneration

This is a permanent role and depending on key factors such as;

• Previous estimating experience or work experience
• Qualifications
• Business Administration Skills such as computer skills
• Industries you have worked
• Value Ad skills or qualifications that complement the role such as procurement, IT or Business Administration

The salary range will be;

• Between 50K to 60K

• + Super
• + Holiday and Sick Leave entitlements
