SNC Lavalin are currently seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong team ethic for key responsibilities on a wind energy project located west of Ballarat, VIC.
When complete it is expected to be the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere generating approximately 530MW of clean energy. It will comprise 149 Goldwind 3.57MW wind turbines erected on 100m high steel towers. Located approximately 35km west of Ballarat in Victoria's central highlands, the SHWF will provide substantial environmental, community and economic benefits, with the potential to power more than 340,000 homes annually.
The primary function of this position is to maximise the financial effectiveness and profitability of the project through diligent application of proper contractual and commercial practices and with the careful management of risk.
Responsibilities
- Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation and agreement of work sections;
- Preparation of interim applications for payment and internal valuations;
- Interim administration and settlement of subcontractors' accounts;
- Assisting in preparation of loss and expense submissions;
- Negotiate with client representatives and other consultants;
- Advise project management on contractual implications of intended courses of action;
- Advise on commercial risks within the project or projects;
- Preparation of monthly contract review reports;
- Preparation of monthly management accounts information; and
- Preparation of contractual and commercial input into Project Business Plan.
Education and Skills
- Degree in QS / Engineering Discipline;
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a quantity surveying role in a construction/contracting environment;
- Previous Oil & Gas, Mining or heavy industrial construction experience highly desirable;
- Knowledgeable of current industry and technical developments;
- Technical and practical knowledge of all phases of contract development, award, administration and close-out relating to a multi-discipline construction project;
- Formal qualifications / affiliations to RICS, IQS, MICES or MCIOB (desirable); and
- Strong working knowledge of administering FIDIC or ICE and other similar contract formulation standards (desirable).
