About the Role:
Reporting to the CIO, the role of Head of Portfolio Management forms a core part of the PM senior leadership team. The key responsibility of this role is to lead manager selection and portfolio construction at the asset class level for the Mercer Pacific Funds. Through the construction of best-in-class building block funds, this role will also be responsible for meeting our client’s needs by delivering excess returns at the asset class level and contributing to overall fund outcomes. In this role you will also:
  • Have direct responsibility for the delivery of alpha for the mainstream asset classes, including listed equities and fixed interest (defensive and growth)
  • Oversee a team of asset class portfolio managers and specialists to ensure that portfolio construction is aligned with Mercer intellectual capital and total fund strategy needs (Mercer Pacific Funds and large DS clients)
  • Work collaboratively with the Alternatives (Hedge Funds and Private Markets) Portfolio Managers to ensure that the Mercer Pacific Funds are well positioned at all times to deliver on their risk and return objectives and consistent with the expectations of our clients
  • In conjunction with the sales and client service teams and other Wealth colleagues, work with our largest Wealth clients to understand our client needs, communicate portfolio strategy and performance and support Mercer’s business development initiatives
About You:
In this role the suitable candidate will need to have:
  • Extensive experience of manager selection and portfolio construction across traditional and alternative assets including private markets
  • In depth understanding of different approaches to portfolio constructions, including passive, active, factor, core and high conviction
  • Extensive knowledge of investment markets, their underlying drivers, the relationships between different asset types and signs of market dislocations.
  • Good working knowledge of defined contribution superannuation strategies including Target Date Funds and post-retirement solutions
  • Track record in engaging with large, sophisticated clients and their advisors and have extensive interaction with senior client decision makers.
