About the Role
Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for a Junior Energy Trading Analyst to join our Energy Trading team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent or upcoming Mathematics, Science or Engineering graduate with an interest in data analysis, financial markets and the energy industry.

In this role, you will work under the guidance and mentoring of the Senior Energy Trader to develop a deep understanding of the Trading Division. As your skills and knowledge are developed, you will then undertake market analysis, prepare market forecasts, and develop financial models and tools to support assessment of wholesale market trading decisions, power station dispatch strategies, investment opportunities and strategic planning. This position also includes spot electricity and gas trading analysis, specifically within the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and National Electricity Market (NEM).

Some of the duties and responsibilities you will undertake are:
  • Market modelling and analysis in the NEM and WEM across electricity, gas and environmental products;
  • Developing financial models and statistical analysis tools;
  • Maintain and develop trading tools, including position management, Profit/Loss and Mark-to-Market reporting and complex multi-commodity options exposure management;
  • Identify opportunities for commercial strategies relating to power stations and other existing optionality exposures;
About You
Energy trading is a fast-paced environment so you will need to be able to demonstrate your ability to work well under pressure. An interest in financial markets and products is essential along with your advanced mathematical, analytical and IT skills.

Other relevant points are:
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong attention to detail skills and high levels of accuracy;
  • Strong numeracy based quantitative and analytical skills;
  • Programming skills with a focus on data management and numerical processing. Models will typically be developed and implemented via a combination of SQL, VBA, C# and/or R;
  • Degree qualifications in Mathematics, Science, Information Technology or Engineering or equivalent are essential.
Industry experience and/or knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and financial markets, including derivatives, is desirable but not mandatory.
