Job tasks and responsibilities
This is a great opportunity to progress a career in public practice accounting. You will be working with the usual range of entities used by individuals, investors, small to medium business and superannuation funds in their affairs, and will be assisting
- applying the correct GST treatment to financial transactions
- ensuring financial transactions are processed correctly for tax purposes
- carrying out bank and other balance sheet reconciliations
- asset capitalisations, depreciation schedules, clearing account reconciliations and other common balance sheet maintenance tasks
- regular compliance reporting (BAS, IAS, Reportable Payments, PAYG, etc.)
- preparation of statutory accounts and tax returns
Initially the work will be predominantly compliance and taxation, with opportunities to grow into business and process improvement, implementation of accounting internal controls, computerisation, and taxation optimisation. Tax & business planning, business valuations, budgetting, management and cash flow reporting, QBCC licence applications and renewals, are growing work streams, that could become available to a candidate who shows interest and aptitude.
Skills and experience
To be successful, you will need
- An accounting degree or diploma (or to be in your final year) that will entitle you to membership of CPA or ICA
- At least three years' accounting experience, possibly gained while studying
- A high level of computer literacy
- A good knowledge of Microsoft Office – particularly Excel and Word
- Knowledge of MYOB & Xero
- A high level of attention to detail, and a diligent nature
- A friendly personality with a high attention to customer service
- Be fluent in English and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A knowledge of common industry based software products (such as the Sage Handisoft suite) would be well regarded
