About the business

Netball ACT (NACT) is the Peak Sporting Body in the ACT for netball and is responsible for the guidance, governance and promotion of the sport in the ACT. 

The main strategic priorities of NACT are to:

  • Grow the sport of netball in the ACT and surrounding region by engaging with the local community and key stakeholders to provide enhanced access to our sport through schools, clubs and affiliated Districts.
  • Strengthen and deliver quality experiences for participants and fans through competition and events.
  • Provide a high-performance culture for athletes, coaches, umpires and officials in the ACT to maximise and develop their full potential.
  • Build the capacity of netball in the ACT through strong governance, workforce development, administration and commercialisation.

We are looking for a Finance and Business Operations Manager to join our team providing corporate support to all areas of our operations and work from the SolarHub ACT Netball Centre in Lyneham. 

The ideal candidate will have several years' experience in a similar role.  They will have formal accounting qualifications, have the ability to multi-task and prioritise work and be a problem-solver with a 'can-do' attitude. They will take initiative on actions to address day-to-day issues, and be highly organised, with great management skills and attention to detail.

About the role

Principle Duties:   

  1. Provide leadership and management in the delivery of timely, cost effective and high quality over all NACT corporate services including finance, procurement, ICT, internal controls, contracts and human resource management.
  2. Work with the GM and leadership team to support the NACT Board and the NACT Finance Audit Risk Management Committee through ensuring the provision of effective annual planning and financial reports that assist decision making.
  3. All bookkeeping and payroll functions; including year-end obligations and reconciliations. 
  4. All finance monitoring, analysis and reporting; including budgets and cashflow reporting.
  5. Liaise and negotiate with external providers including scoping services, procurement and contract negotiations.
  6. Assist the GM in contract management ensuring appropriate contract terms and conditions and advising on financial and reporting obligations, including government grants and sponsorship agreements.
  7. Develop, implement and oversight an effective human resource management system, including policies, procedures and performance monitoring and management.
  8. Assist the GM and NACT ICT working group/committee to provide efficient and effective management of internal and external ICT services to support efficient business practices.
  9. Implement an ongoing program of continuous improvement for corporate systems and processes including policy implementation and review, proactive data collection, analysis and performance monitoring and reporting.
  10. Participate as a member of the NACT leadership team.

Key tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the day-to-day running of the organisation's finance function, processes and systems.
  • Management of the assets register.
  • BAS, FBT, Superannuation and other relevant Tax Payments & Reconciliations.
  • Manage cash flow for all parts of the business.
  • Manage and produce budgets and reports with detailed analysis and insight.
  • Prepare annual financial statements to Australian Accounting Standards; liaise with and assist auditors during the course of the audit, follow up recommendations made by auditors.
  • Develop cash flow budgets, monitor cash flows, and recommend investment policies that cater for cash needs and temporary cash surpluses.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure necessary approval and appropriate costing for all expenditure.
  • Prepare accounts and assist with year-end audit.
  • Assist the General Manager with preparation of the annual budget

HR and Office Administration Tasks:

  • Act as first point of contact for all day to day stakeholder enquiries
  • Undertake office administration duties including:
    • General record keeping
    • Maintaining and ordering office stationary and equipment
    • Point of contact between external IT service providers and staff.
    • Managing and archiving of documents
    • Printing and disseminating documents for meetings
  • Assist the General Manager in:
    • Implementing and maintaining office policies, processes and guidelines (including staff handbook)
    • Reviewing office policies and processes annually 
    • Liaising with external contractors
    • Implementation of continuous improvement processes
    • Inducting new staff
    • Administration of staff leave including 'Time in Lieu'  
    • Administration of board meetings and papers
  • Ensure the organisation adheres to the Modern Sporting Award and relevant legislation
  • Ensure business unit reports are completed and submitted to meet board deadlines
  • General office duties as required

Essential Selection Criteria 

Provide evidence of your experience against each essential selection criteria:

  1. In-depth understanding in commercial and financial operations, accounting systems and taxation.
  2. Experience and expertise in managing finances for an organisation.
  3. Expertise in developing and implementing business processes to improve office efficiencies.
  4. Proven knowledge in HR processes and functions including the development of HR management systems, policy development, procedure and performance monitoring.
  5. Formal tertiary qualifications in Accounting and experience using Xero.
  6. Experience in Kounta PoS and Calxa desirable. 

Salary

Annual salary of $90,000 per annum equivalent ($52,106per annum pro rata for 22 hours per week). Plus 9.5% superannuation.
