NORTHERN METROPOLITAN CEMETERIES TRUST
TRUST BOARD MEMBERS
The Northern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (NMCT) is responsible for the care, control and management of the Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, Frenchs Forest Bushland Cemetery, Field of Mars Cemetery, Gore Hill Cemetery and Sandgate Cemetery (Newcastle). These are public Crown cemeteries managed pursuant to the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013 and Crown Lands Act 1989. The Board of the Trust is responsible for managing the affairs of the Trust in accordance with the relevant provisions of these Acts.
The terms of office of two of the sitting Board Members expired in May 2018. Applications are therefore invited from persons interested in being considered for appointment or re-appointment as a Trust Board Member.
Appointments will be made by the Minister for Lands and Forestry under section 74 of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013. The term of office will be for a period not exceeding five years. Board members are entitled to be paid remuneration in the range from $10,000 to $15,000 per annum, the precise annual remuneration being determined by the Minister. The Board meets at least four times a year and board members are expected to serve on Board Committees.
Applicants will be required to demonstrate professional expertise, qualifications or experience that is relevant to the functions exercisable by the board. Capability in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:
- Business/commercial acumen
- Investment management
- Financial management
- Digital innovation
- Risk management
- Government legal framework
- Marketing and communications
