We have an interesting full-time permanent position for an experienced professional who enjoys building commercial relationships with great clients. In partnership with our teams in Finance, Design and Project Management, you will be responsible for new business services and communications. You will build on Balarinji’s long-term, valued partnerships with our clients, and grow new relationships, by delivering intuitive service, strategic advice and exceptional communications in line with our premium brand positioning.

Sydney-based Balarinji is a leading Australian strategy and design practice working throughout Australia and on international projects. Established in 1983, we have been at the forefront of integrating Aboriginal sensibility across major infrastructure and branding/communications projects for thirty five years.

Best known for conceptualising Aboriginal art on Qantas aircraft, we also count in our client portfolio, Lendlease, Roads and Maritime Services NSW, WSP, Transport for NSW, Nespresso and commemoration work in Europe for Department of Veterans Affairs.  

We assist our national and international clients to express Australian identity through best practice strategic review and planning, Indigenous engagement, construction, interiors, public art, digital and design and communications.

Balarinji's affiliated not-for-profit, the Moriarty Foundation, run separately, is an initiative that enables Aboriginal families and communities to unlock the potential of their children, to radically shift intergenerational disadvantage

Position Qualification & Experience Requirements:

  • A skilled customer service professional, facing in to team, and facing out to clients, always focusing on the relationship.
  • A proactive, agile, team-conscious attitude, with the desire to find solutions and achieve results.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to secure outcomes.
  • Degree qualified.
  • 5-6 years experience as an Account Manager or 5+ years experience as a Business Development Manager in creative industries or an agency environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing client proposals.
  • Experience in marketing and communications strategy.
  • Experience within industries such as construction, design, public art, production/fabrication desirable but not essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • IT competency in MS Office for Mac, primarily Excel, Word and Powerpoint,
  • Financial competency.

Key Duties:

  • Drive new business in line with company strategic direction and culture, priority targets and budgets.
  • Meetings and follow-up.
  • Best practice client care and communications.
  • In liaison with the Studio, prepare proposals and presentations to meet client needs.
  • Work closely with the studio on pitching and post-conversion handovers.
  • Be involved in project reviews to track financial performance.
  • Input to Web, Social Media and PR strategy to ensure online and general media presence best supports business development.
  • Efficient and structured e-file management.
  • Ad hoc duties as required.

The Business Development Lead position reports directly to the Managing Director, and is a member of the Senior Management Team.
