Excellent opportunity to join a renowned Government department based in CBD for a 6-month contract with possible extension.

The purpose of this role is to develop and implement WHS systems, strategies and policies, providing advice on emerging WHS issues, making recommendations on the implementation of safe work practice and ensuring compliance with legislation to promote a safety culture whilst ensuring the duty of care to other internal workers.


Key Responsibilities: -

  • Develop, implement, monitor and review the WHS management systems, strategies, and policies to ensure compliance with relative legislation and codes of practice
  • Develop, implement and maintain WHS performance and reporting systems, providing advise and reports to management on WHS matters and relates risk management strategies to support effective planning and decision making
  • Develop and deliver targeted training programs to educate and inform senior managers and staff on their obligations under WHS legislation, policies and procedures
  • Provide advice and recommendations to senior management on emerging WHS issues to contribute to effective decision making and facilitate the implementation of safe work practices
  • Conduct audits of the WHS management systems to identify and address areas for improvement and ensure compliance with legislative requirements, codes of practice, Australian Standards and best practice principles
  • Review and analyse changes in legislation, making recommendations to ensure that current policies and procedures comply
  • Oversee the implementation/provision of health and wellbeing programs to support and educate staff in managing their wellbeing whilst at work and to minimise risks associated with working within the legal industry

To be successful for this role you must have: -

  • A diploma of WHS or equivalent and relevant experience in the industry
  • Knowledge and experience in the interpretation and implementation of relevant WHS related legislation and industry standards and an understanding of NSW WHS legislative framework including injury management and the Workers Compensation Act 1998.
