St Michaels is a not-for-profit disability service provider that works with customers to realise their potential.

As one of Tasmania's largest not-for-profit disability service and training organisations, we provide services from Launceston and regional locations throughout Tasmania. We have more than 50 years of experience and expertise in the disability service industry.

A registered NDIS provider, we employ close to 100 staff and provide empowering, personalised services to over 500 people with disability, their families and carers each year.

POSITION SUMMARY                 

This position leads all aspects of the Association's Human Resources activities. The position supports a broad range of disciplines including: Benefits Administration (Salary Packaging), Payroll, Time and Attendance, Learning & Development, Recruiting, Safety, Association Policy, Workers Compensation, Industrial Relations, STMA HR Information System Administration and act as an Employee Liaison between Staff and Management.

SUPERVISION                                

The position reports directly to the Corporate Services Manager, with strategic direction from the CEO.

SKILLS & COMPETENCE – Specialist Expertise 

Qualifications & Training

Desirable

  • Associates Degree (2 year) related to Human Resources or Higher
  • 5 years of experience in HR field  
  • Advanced Excel training, prior use of Database software

Specialist Expertise

  • HR Information System Experience in particular knowledge of participant roster systems utilised in a community based non-profit organisation
  • Candidate interviewing experience
  • Experienced in dealing with staffing agencies
  • Knowledge of current Industrial/Employment laws
  • Networking ability and skills and maintaining personal relationships in HR and academic circles

OTHER REQUIREMENTS               

  • Required to provide a satisfactory National Police Check and Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Provision of a satisfactory pre–employment medical report
  • Satisfactory reference checks
  • Demonstrated knowledge and effective operations of relevant computer programs, including Microsoft Word, XL and other software applications as required
  • Current manual driver's license
  • Sound report writing skills

SELECTION CRITERIA                  

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of staff and or client base
  • Demonstrated successful experience in Employee Relationships & Human Resource Management
  • Demonstrated success with administration, management and organisational skills
  • Qualifications in Human Resource Management at a tertiary level highly desirable
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to Industrial Relations and Workplace Health & Safety
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant financial and budgetary experience
  • HR Information System Experience
  • Proficiency with word processing, spread-sheets, web browser and email software.
  • Experience teaching or training others
  • Ability to work independently

Desirable / willingness to work towards

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110)
