How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

The Aboriginal Employment Support Officer will support the Aboriginal Employment Advisor with all recruitment activities across Council, including building recruitment capability across the organisation.

The opportunity works collaboratively to contribute to the improvement of recruitment, employment pathways, selection procedures and resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will engage with community as a means of maintaining strong relationships that contribute to good placement outcomes.

As the key support person to the Aboriginal Employment Team the position plays an important role in supporting the implementation of City of Melbourne’s Aboriginal Employment Strategy which aims to make our organisation a place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people want to work.

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence
  • Proven experience in a recruitment role, with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian community     
  • Good written and verbal communication including presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to engage with the community, and build relationships
  • Previous experience in mentoring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates and/or employees would be advantageous.
