About us

Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) is a team in Workplace Services, People and Culture. The team provides process, systems and services to support the Department of Justice and Regulation (the department) to meet its responsibilities under Health and Safety Laws (Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013).

About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Safety Improvement, the Senior Safety Improvement Advisor's primary responsibility is to lead the refinement and contribute to the delivery of occupational health and safety (OHS) improvements to Youth Justice (YJ) systems of work including; site inductions visitor processing, contractor inductions, contract management programs and others as required, to acquit recommendations from a recent audit of the management of YJ OHS.

In this role you will be required to proactively develop and deliver improvements to procedures, processes and systems of work in collaboration with YJ custodial services and the department's HSW team to enable the implementation of safe OHS systems.  You will also manage and mentor the Safety Improvement Advisor who will report directly to you.

The role will be based in the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, however at times may be required to work from the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct and Melbourne CBD.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • experience in project management and implementing process improvements to OHS management systems
  • exterpise in complex business process re-engineering and a proven ability to develop and deliver process system improvements in a timely manner that takes into account people, process and technology
  • the ability to establish relationships with stakeholders, developing effective stakeholder-oriented responses, and assessing, developing and negotiating innovative solutions to complex issues.

A relevant tertiary qualification or professional qualification in project management, process improvement or a related field is highly desirable.
