Often referred to as the Capital of the Outback, Broken Hill is the cultural heart of regional Australia. Renowned for its mining industry, the region is also a centre for the arts with a strong community of accomplished painters, photographers, sculptors and film makers; it has been the home of award winning artists and cinema productions.

At Broken Hill City Council our work is the city that surrounds us. When you join our team, the results and success of your work are evident in every facet of city life. We work together every day to shape a community and create a city that we can be truly proud of. Take on a role at the Council, and take pride in making a difference to our great city every day.

The Broken Hill City Council was recently successful in receiving project funding for ‘Australia’s First Heritage Listed City Goes Digital’. This is a major 2 year digitisation project relating to Council’s key Gallery and Museum. The money from this funding will pay for the two fulltime staff required to complete the digitisation, as well as the equipment, software, training and resources required.

We have an exciting career opportunity working within our Corporate and Cultural Services unit as a Collection Project Manager. Reporting directly to the Gallery & Museum Manager, you will be responsible and accountable for the entire digitisation project of both the Gallery and Museum collections.

Broken Hill is home to diverse collections of national and international significance that are currently inaccessible. We would like to improve public knowledge, use and engagement of these treasures through this project.

Stage one (currently nearing completion) will see the BHP Billiton Foundation and Broken Hill City Council purchase a sophisticated Content Management System, this will be installed in time for this position to begin the project.

Stage two (for which this position is being funded) will see the digitisation of the collections from the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery and the Albert Kersten Mining and Minerals Museum. These two institutions collectively hold over 3200 pieces in their collections, with an estimated value of just under $10 million.

Stages three and four (for which this position is not responsible) will involve the digitisation of the Outback Archives and the creation of an interactive website.

As an experienced project leader, you are adept at managing workflows to meet desired outcomes and can engage key stakeholders to achieve results. You will have demonstrated experience in delivering successful projects, budget monitoring and reporting, staff/volunteer performance management, and project coordination, supported by relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in a similar position.

At Broken Hill we are For Real. We believe in real experiences, real places, real friendships and real values.  Our people are our strength - the City of Broken Hill is home to a very inclusive community, and at Broken Hill City Council we welcome you to join our team moving forward and enjoy the career success you hope for.
