Racing.com is Australia’s premier thoroughbred racing media organisation, offering content across broadcast, digital and social media platforms. A joint venture between Racing Victoria and Seven West Media, Racing.com is the media rights holder for Victorian and South Australian thoroughbred racing, as well as broadcasting Hong Kong and other selected international feature race meetings. Through Free-To-Air channels 78 (metropolitan) and 68 (digital), and Foxtel 529, Racing.com reaches 95% of the available Australian television viewing audience.

Racing.com is also a rapidly growing digital media destination for thoroughbred racing news, content, vision, fan engagement, marketing and the promotion of events, complimented by a suite of world class consumer focused digital products across Web, Mobile and App (iOS, Android).

The role

  • Participate in the entire development cycle (analysis, spec, design, code, pilot, launch and support)
  • Turn concept design and user interface mock-ups and comps into functional web/mobile applications
  • Collaborate with the development team to plan, prototype and build appropriate solutions
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop an understanding of user’s goals and objectives 
  • Lead and direct other front-end developers throughout the technology stack.
  • Ensure all front-end technology solutions are properly architected and specified
  • Define and disseminate front-end technology best practices
  • Abstract layouts, design patterns (MVC / MVVM), and UI components while building out the interface to a product or application Own web standards, accessibility, and usability standards
  • Maintain the coherence of information architecture, interaction design, and visual design details
  • Test and re-factor code across browsers and with QA teams.

Knowledge and skills

  • Degree in Computer Science or relevant tertiary qualification(s) and/or Post-Graduate qualification(s) or demonstrable significant work experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated development experience and mastery of interface design (tool design preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in hand-coding Javascript, AngularJS, jQuery HTML5/CSS/JSON/AJAX and advanced design patterns
  • Proven experience with the REST model of web services
  • Proven understanding and experience in web application architecture, object-oriented software and design patterns
  • Demonstrated familiarity with mobile development, including responsive design and touch capabilities
  • Established understanding of the principles of web accessibility and user-centred design/development
  • Proven experience using Git or similar version control system and demonstrable experience of Cloud-based infrastructure (Azure, AWS etc)
  • Team focused with sound organisational skills and proven experience collaborating in an Agile environment

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with LESS, Bootstrap
  • Experience working with Knockout, Angular JS, Ember, Backbone
  • Experience with Sitecore, Umbraco or similar
  • Experience working with ASP.NET Webforms and/or MVC
