About the role
The Bioinformatics Support Specialist role is a part time position that reports directly to the Bioinformatics Manager. The position is primarily responsible for support and maintenance duties for bioinformatics routine/automated pipelines, but has additional responsibility for back-end programming and web development. The Bioinformatics Support role is acts as coding support and development for in-house applications and pipelines, and quality control databases.
What you'll need to succeed
- Tertiary degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics or Web Development
- Proven ability to develop with Python and web development framework, such as Django.
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux environment and scripting
- Familiarity with database management and SQL
Any of the following is desirable but not essential:
- Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools or techniques
- Knowledge of additional programming languages (R, Perl or Java)
- Familiarity with other web development languages (php, HTML, javascript, CSS, etc.)
- Undertaken bioinformatics training and an interest in bioinformatics pipeline and web development
