Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is the operator of Brisbane Airport, the premier gateway to Queensland, the largest airport in Australia on land size, the second busiest capital city airport in Australia on aircraft movements, and the third largest airport in Australia by passenger numbers (with more than 21.8 million passengers last financial year). Position

The Solution Architect is responsible for the design of end-to-end application & data services based technology solutions to support the achievement of the BAC business goals.

Key deliverables associated with this role include development and implementation Solution Integration artefacts within Projects, technical leadership and guidance to Project Teams and where appropriate Conceptual, Logical and Physical designs relevant to the BAC environment.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Role Specific

  • Design application & data services based information technology solutions (end-to-end) to meet specific business requirements within the framework of BAC’s Enterprise Architecture
  • Provide overall technical leadership to Project Teams and External Vendors in terms of the end-to-end solution, ensuring all facets of the designs and technologies are integrated to deliver a BAC architecturally compliant solution on behalf of the customer
  • Ensure requirements, architectural designs, risks, issues and decisions are documented using appropriate processes and documentation tools.
  • Creation of Conceptual, Logical and Physical designs – where required.
  • Provide advice, guidance and quality assurance to vendors’ conceptual, logical and physical designs to ensure they align to BAC Enterprise Architecture standards and principles
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recommends business and technical options based on estimated cost, return on investment (ROI), performance and support requirements
  • Makes assessments based on business need and value, substantiated with measurable financial metrics
  • Assist the Project Manager to create detailed cost estimates for products and services as part of the design phase
  • ·Provide sufficient detail relating to technical requirements(information, application and infrastructure technologies) to enable a project proposal/bid process that satisfies business requirements
  • Assist in the definition and maintenance of requirements gathering, analysis and design
  • Assist in the review of business cases and project plans

Maintain knowledge capability sufficient to provide leadership with regard to Solution Architectures:

  • Maintain links with appropriate research and consultancy organisations to enable ICT to be current with technology trends including systems & technologies relevant to Brisbane Airport.
  • Provide leadership of the technical delivery of projects through clearly demonstrated understanding of the BAC Enterprise Architecture framework including the delivery of Solution Architecture aligned with BAC EA Principles.

Establish and maintain key stakeholder relationships to engender trust and influence outcomes:

  • Is a trusted advisor to IT Project Managers and translates business requirements into cost-effective and supportable technology-led solution outcomes for the business
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships, networks and alliances with senior internal clients, external providers and suppliers
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with the ICT Enterprise/Domain Architects/ Application Administrators to ensure alignment with BAC EA Framework, industry practices and Business & Technology Roadmaps

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Good understanding of project management (or IT management)
  • At least five years demonstrated experience in a senior architecture role
  • Demonstrated ability to apply solution architecture principles, practices and processes within an enterprise architecture, ICT investment and governance framework
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities to identify, analyse and resolve technology responses to business process and requirements challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to develop conceptual, logical and physical solution architecture inclusive of all architecture domains to support proposal, development and implementation of systems
  • Proven ability to prioritise, organise and implement resource and work schedules for operational and project work and to lead service providers to meet deadlines and agreed outcomes
  • Demonstrated communication, negotiation and facilitation skills to; assist stakeholders contribute to the development of requirements and designs; present briefs, submissions and reports to enable decisions; and build relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Technology or related field
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • ITIL Foundations Certificate
  • Experience in IT planning, current issues and trends and IT strategic management

Knowledge and Technical Proficiency

  • Appropriate qualifications in Information Technology or related disciplines
  • Proven ability to analyse and develop technical solutions
  • Ability to communicate and sell technical solutions to various business groups
  • Ability to produce quality technical documentation including detailed technical designs and diagrams
  • Customer Relationship Management
  • High level of competency in Solution Design and Technical Architecture Documentation
  • Broad and deep conceptual understanding of Data Warehousing concepts
  • Broad and deep conceptual understanding of Enterprise Service Bus, Enterprise Application Integration and/or Service Oriented Architecture
  • Broad and deep knowledge covering SQL based databases, data integration and workflow platforms, online analytical processing and data mining platforms as well as server-based reporting software systems
  • Expert Data Modelling skills
  • Knowledge of RDBMS fundamentals as well as competing technologies such as NoSQL and graph databases
  • Appropriate qualifications in Information Technology or related disciplines
  • An in-depth understanding of computerised systems in a networked environment
  • An understanding of business systems and how they relate to, and assist in, corporate performance
  • An understanding of trouble shooting techniques
  • An understanding of operational systems and how they relate to, and assist in, running an Airport or similar environment
