We are currently seeking an experienced Activities Officer, based at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre (YHIDC) in Northam WA. This position will be responsible for the development and delivery of programmes and activities to people in detention on a day to day basis.

About the role

The successful applicant will be responsible for facilitating programs throughout the year catering to a broad group of diverse needs. An Activities Officer is a key position that contributes to maintaining a positive and healthy community by providing sporting, recreational, arts, life skills and leisure activities.   

Skills / Knowledge / Attributes

• Develop, manage and deliver a schedule of structured and unstructured programs and activities
• Contribute to team objectives / monthly schedule planning and positive team environment
• Ensure activities are meaningful and encourage detainees to participate
• Actively develop processes and encourage detainee feedback
• Participate in team planning a monthly activities schedule dependant on detainee interest
• Participate in team planning for a monthly excursion planner
• Communicate effectively with staff and detainees regarding activities and events to ensure detainees can access activities of their choice
• Ensure appropriate resourcing for planned activities
• Ensure recreational equipment is available in common rooms and make sufficient quantities available to detainees
• Maintain accurate records of all activities that take place

To be successful in this position you will require:

• Cert 3 in Sport and Rec or similar relevant qualification
• Preferable experience in conducting structured programs for adults and/or families
• Experience working with people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds
• AFP Clearance
• Current First Aid qualification

This is a full-time position working Monday – Friday, joining the committed team in the Welfare & Engagement department.
