Tasracing is responsible for the development of racing and breeding, the funding of clubs as well as providing stakes, media rights and managing racing venues. Tasracing provides a commercially viable future for racing in Tasmania by promoting and distributing data on racing form, track conditions and by assisting racing clubs to promote their racing events and carnivals.
We are on the hunt for 2 Groundspersons to fill the positions of Assistant Harness Curator and Assistant Greyhound Curator.
Reporting to the Racecourse Manager- South, you will be responsible for:
- performing general turf maintenance duties, including divot replacement and filling, sweeping, excavating, watering and ensuring appropriate irrigation of the track, spraying and assisting with rail movement;
- Maintaining and operating basic horticultural and turf management plant and equipment including mowers, brush cutters, rotary hoes, chainsaws, hand held power tools, HP tractors, implements and light trucks;
- Assisting senior groundspersons in a broad range of functions including maintenance of plant, equipment and facilities including planting and pruning;
- Providing support with race day preparation and operations;
- Unless already obtained, successfully embarking on and completing a Certificate III in a relevant discipline.
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Suitable qualifications in Turf Management, Horticulture or similar, or an interest and commitment to complete a Certificate III;
- Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment;
- Contemporary understanding of workplace health and safety regulations and a strong focus on improving and contributing to the safety culture of the Track Team;
- Proven ability to demonstrate agility and initiative and flexibly adapt to numerous projects and priorities;
- Drivers licence preferred but not essential;
- Trade qualification (auto mechanic or carpentry) preferred but not essential;
- Prior experience in the turf or horticultural industry preferred but not essential..
The successful candidate will be rewarded with a remuneration package in line with our Enterprise Agreement, classified appropriately on skills and experience.
