Based in the vibrant town of Mildura in North West Victoria, the role of Technical Agronomist presents as a unique opportunity for a developing agronomist/agriculture specialist to further develop their skills and broaden their work remit and experience while working under the leadership of an industry leading Agronomy Manager.
Reporting to the Agronomy Manger – Grape Category, the role of Technical Agronomist will provide agricultural technical support for agronomic projects within table grapes including field assessments, R&D projects and technical assessment programs across the company’s table grape growers.
Key activities will involve providing agronomic assistance and monitoring services inclusive of:
- Grape phenology – timing and intensity of each growth stage through the season
- Technical Assessments – Yield & Fruit Quality
- Cultural Practices & Growing Techniques.
- Nutritional status – tissue analysis; fertigation analysis
- Irrigation & Water Management
- Pest & Disease – regular scouting
- Data management
This role will also involve agronomic experimentation such as carrying out emerging treatments in culture practices, cropping techniques, PGRs and additional fertiliser treatments and the subsequent measurement of results impacting on fruit yield, size, sugar and quality.
Diversified duties assisting the Category’s Quality Assurance Manager will also be integral to the position and will involve pest management programs, fruit sampling and assessment and grower compliance & certification.
The successful applicant will have a degree in agricultural science or another relevant discipline related to crop production as a minimum, ideally with some post graduate agricultural field experience. Applicants with substantive viticultural / agronomic experience, but who do not hold a tertiary qualification are encouraged to apply. Exemplary analytical, communication, relationship building and influencing skills and a level of flexibility to adapt to changing priorities are required. Managing and working confidently with a large diversified base of growers, other business professionals and field staff is integral the position. A current driver license is essential.
