Our Campbellfield Shelter is located 10 minutes from the Western Ring Road, Hume HWY exit. Our hours of operation are between 8am and 4.30pm, 7 days per week, hours outside of these may be required on occasion. Role Statement

We are looking for a passionate and driven Animal Attendant Team Leader to join our shelter team. They will be responsible for taking care of the SCAR shelter’s needs, coordinating the care of our shelter animals and coordinating our shelter volunteer team. They will interact with members of the public, coordinate incoming and outgoing animals and ensure that shelter animals receive proper care. The Animal Attendant Team Leader provides leadership to our volunteers and ensures that all areas of our shelter facility are operating at the highest standard possible.

Accountabilities

The responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the shelter, however the main responsibilities will include:

  • Management of animals in our shelter in accordance to the Code of Practice for Shelters and Pounds Victoria.
  • Ensure the values, vision, and direction of the shelter are met by leading by example and effective communication with staff and volunteers.
  • Effectively provide new and ongoing volunteer training to our shelter volunteer team.
  • Coordinating and overseeing our volunteer team to ensure that all daily shelter requirements are being met to the high standard that SCAR expects.
  • Dealing directly with public walk-ins in a friendly and professional manner
  • Answering phone calls, messages and email enquiries in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the shelter and a supportive team environment.
  • Assisting with animal adoptions via the shelter facility.

About you

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills and experience;

  • Experience working in this role or another management role in a pound or shelter.
  • Minimum of a Certificate III Animal Care or equivalent experience essential.
  • Proven ability to lead a team and ability to delegate tasks effectively. 
  • The ability to plan and organise tasks and activities with a positive and professional approach.
  • Strong and capable dog handling skills.
  • The ability to bounce back from occasional setbacks.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to empathise and remain compassionate while under pressure.
  • Vic driver's licence.
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment and problem solve.
  • Dedicated and highly motivated.
  • Attention to detail, punctuality and reliability
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent time management, Initiative and prioritising skills.
