The Role

Provide an outreach, assessment, counselling and referral service for at risk youths aged between 12- 17 focusing on young Aboriginal males. The aim of this role is to take on a case management approach of  10-12 clients at a time and engaging them in (not limited to) community events, schooling, family, art sports and rec and music. 

A Few Specifics

• Be able to respond appropriately to a client in crisis.
• Facilitate education information and therapeutic groups as required.
• Arrange referrals to agencies and services for clients who would be better served by such agencies and services.
• Agree to abide by relevant professional ethics and agency policies.
• Perform special duties as requested by the Manager, e.g. assist with community development and liaison, represent agency on public committees, give presentations to community groups etc.
• Other duties as agreed with the Program Manager or Executive Manager.
• A willingness to travel within the Goldfields Region.

You

• Recognised qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Social Sciences, Youth Work and related disciplines or equivalent.
• Relevant experience in the area of general counselling, family support and/or youth counselling.
• Experience in Outreach work – eg community settings, home settings, detention centres and at other agency locations.
• Well developed communication skills, written and verbal.
• Demonstrated ability to work across cultures.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Possession of a current 'C' (previously 'A') class driver's license and vehicle.
• Able to work flexible hours Monday to Friday as negotiated up to 8.30 pm Monday to Friday.
• Ability to work within the Centrecare Ethos.
