The Centre for Disability Studies (CDS) is a not for profit research and education organisation that is affiliated with the University of Sydney. Our vision and mission is to create and disseminate knowledge that improves the lives of people with disabilities. We achieve this through designing and developing research, teaching and clinical practice to inform disability policy and practice.

We have an exciting new opportunity to join the CDS team as our Disability Outreach Coordinator.  This leadership position will establish a new model of service delivery in Western NSW for people with disability.  Services will be provided through a hub and spoke model, in which potential therapy facilitators are identified in clients' local communities, then trained to deliver consistent, high-quality programs designed by allied health professionals.

This is a full time position, but is negotiable to be part-time for the right candidate.

 

About the Role

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the effective delivery and management of a range of activities which include:

  • Project coordination for the Western NSW Hub and Spoke Initiative
  • Recruitment and workforce management of therapy facilitators
  • Managing a widespread client base throughout Western NSW
  • Acting as a consulting allied health professional when required

 

To be successful in the role you the key qualities required are:

Essential skills

  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Psychology,  and relevant disability sector experience
  • Current registration with AHPRA or eligibility for membership with a professional organisation, whichever applies to your qualification
  • Sound understanding of issues affecting people with intellectual or other cognitive disability
  • Demonstrated experience in project coordination/administration skills
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting allied health services to people with disability
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including evidence of clear and concise writing for a variety of audiences
  • Experience delivering allied health services in rural areas
  • Sound understanding of service delivery processes under the NDIS framework
  • Experience managing the HR requirements of other staff, including organising and delivering professional development and supervision

 

Desirable skills

  • Demonstrated experience in promoting allied health services to people with disability across a wide geographical area
  • Experience delivering allied health services in Western NSW
  • Experience managing PRODA bookings and service agreements under the NDIS framework
  • Experience managing a small business
