The Skills First Reconnect Program is a Victorian Government initiative that funds the provision of a range of supports for high needs learners to sustain their engagement with learning and build the resilience and capacity necessary to successfully transition into formal learning and training that leads to jobs.

About the role

The Youth Pathway Adviser will support participants on Intensive Bail (IB) and Youth Control Orders (YCOs) who have a requirement to undertake vocational education and training as part of their order. We are looking for a positive person with a relevant tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated skills and experience in working effectively in re engagement programs with young people experiencing substance misuse, homelessness, mental health concerns, violent or aggressive behaviours and other complex problems that may result in offending behaviour.

  • Collingwood based, with ability to travel throughout Melbourne’s North West region, as required.

Candidate requirements:

To be successful in this role, candidates will require:

  • Proven experience in, and/or knowledge of, Education and Training Systems and/or the Youth Justice and Adult Justice System, relevant legislation, processes and procedures and the ability to establish, and maintain positive and productive working arrangements with a range of stakeholders.
  • An advanced understanding of the barriers that prevent young people successfully engaging and completing education.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate, liaise and engage with stakeholders in government, the private and the community sectors in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated experience or capacity in conducting holistic assessments including vocational and learning assessments that impact positively on participant’s development.
  • An advanced understanding of the principles of case management and case work, and ability to complete holistic assessments of participants’ barriers in order to support and coordinate their education and training pathway plan.
  • Ability to provide accurate and timely reports.
  • Relevant Qualifications would be highly regarded.
  • Be results driven, passionate about performance and able to meet KPIs.
  • Understanding and sympathy with the mission and ethos of JSS.
  • Computer literate (including Microsoft Office Suite), with skills and experience in using social networking media.
  • Successful completion of a Police Check. Police Check will be conducted prior to commencement by JSS.
  • A current Driver’s Licence, Working with Children’s Check card and access to a fully insured car are mandatory.
