An exciting opportunity has become vacant for a Learning Support Officer to join our team in Dandenong. Reporting to the Manager, Given the Chance this position will intensively support people to engage and complete vocational education and training, including providing tutoring and classroom based support where appropriate.

Summary of Program and its objectives

Reconnect Program - The Reconnect Program works with disadvantaged people aged 17 – 64 years who are disconnected from education and training to help them identify their education, training and employment goals and develop a plan to help them achieve their goals. It links them to training opportunities through Learn Local Providers, RTOs and TAFEs as well as support and services in their local community.

Main responsibilities of the role

The Learning Support Officer will recruit participants for the program, co-develop and design learning and achievement plans with them, support them to implement their plan and liaise closely with trainers/teachers and other local services to support the participant’s engagement, retention and completion of both pre-accredited and accredited training and education.

To meet the selection criteria, candidate will require:

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully supporting disadvantaged people to engage in training, and/or secure sustainable employment, and/or participate in work experience or volunteering including providing encouragement, case work support and career planning and guidance.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to successfully build and maintain constructive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds including those who may have limited English skills.
  • Excellent partnership building skills with a proven track record of building and developing effective relationships with a range of organisations to achieve targets and outcomes.
  • Experience in learning/training and community development, in particular for a disengaged and/or vulnerable cohort.
  • Demonstrated administrative, record keeping and writing skills with the ability to maintain accurate and timely records of engagement with clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively within a team and with delivery partners to ensure a collaborative approach to helping people to achieve their goals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in Microsoft programs and the effective use of client record databases.
  • Knowledge of Victoria’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector including accredited and pre-accredited training.
  • Understanding of, and empathy with, the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.

Desirable

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.

This is a full time position 12 months contract working 38 hours per week.

Salary will be in the range of $60,000 to $65,000 per annum based on skills and experience, plus superannuation. Attractive salary packaging provisions are available to increase take home pay.
