Summary of program and its objectives:

The Chaplaincy and Diocesan Partnerships covers broad fields of pastoral care, spirituality and education. It’s role in the Brotherhood is to work with the whole community of the Brotherhood in helping to uphold the vision, mission and objectives as an organisation and to support the many areas in which we offer care, opportunity and transformation to individuals and communities.

Chaplaincy works in relation to all staff not only in the exploration of the spiritual but also in the delivery of our strategies and the way in which we work, reflect and celebrate together. With partnerships with the wider community it seeks to develop sustainable models of Diocesan and parish engagement with various stakeholders. This includes schools and other agencies as well as the development of local community projects.

The Brotherhood has direct relationships with many educational settings including primary and secondary schools, universities, TAFEs and training centres. Engagement occurs across the organisation in a variety of ways for a variety of reasons.

Main responsibilities of the role:

The purpose of the Schools Engagement Officer position is to support the development of the Schools Engagement Program. The Schools Engagement Program provides students with educational opportunities that embrace the values of social justice, poverty reduction and service to others. All responsibilities require close collaboration with the Schools Engagement Coordinator, school staff, students and community organisations.

To meet the selection criteria, candidates will require:

  • relevant tertiary qualifications in education, community development, youth work, education and training or similar
  • ability to relate to and engage with young people
  • broad understanding of the issues of social justice, disadvantage and community development
  • demonstrated understanding of how schools operate across primary and secondary levels
  • well-developed organisational and time management skills with the ability to plan workload, prioritise, meet deadlines and balance multiple projects
  • well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise across all levels both internally, externally and with people from diverse backgrounds
  • proven ability to work autonomously and effectively as part of a team
  • current first aid certificate or willing to undertake a First Aid Course including CPR
  • current food handling certificate or willing to undertake a Food Handling course
  • understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.

 

This is a full time position working 38 hours per week.

Salary will be in the range of $54,271.88 to $57,823.42 per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation. Attractive salary packaging provisions are available to increase take home pay.
