Peer Practitioner – Mental Health

Mind Australia Limited is one of Australia’s most trusted providers of family, friend and carer inclusive community mental health services, with over 40 years’ experience

We are now looking for a Peer Practitioner to join our new team at the Gladstone Step Up Step Down, a purpose built facility servicing the people of Central Queensland. This new service will provide a short term (up to 28 days) voluntary 24 hour residential service for adults (18-64) who are experiencing mental ill health.

The Peer Practitioner will utilise their lived experience of mental ill health and recovery to provide specialist services to clients, families and carers, in line with Mind’s Model of Recovery Oriented Practice and according to the values of Mind. The Peer Practitioner works as part of a multidisciplinary team, with lived experience of mental ill health and recovery being the unique specialist lens that they bring.

 

As part of the team at Mind you will:

  • Work part time, 24 hours per week on a fixed term contract
  • Utilise your own lived experience of mental ill health and recovery to inform your work and the work of the team
  • Work with customers to enable them return to their place of residence and a meaningful life through supporting them through a staged approach to recovery
  • Work in partnership with clinical services and other key stake holders
  • Assist client to build networks and support which will help them once they have exited the service

 

You will have:

  • A lived experience of mental ill health and recovery AND the ability and willingness to use this to inform your work and the work of the team
  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health related field as designated by Mind
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working within a recovery oriented framework
  • A positive attitude to the work
