About the Role:

We are currently seeking applications for a casual Mental Health Support Worker with experience and relevant qualifications in mental health to join our team, working with customers in Joondalup, the Inner-City region and surrounding areas. This role requires flexibility regarding days/hours worked.

Mental Health Support Workers provide direct and personalised assistance and support services to customers with a mental illness. Our supports are tailored to individual needs to assist people to achieve their goals, develop their independence, maintain their wellbeing, explore opportunities and work towards agreed outcomes that are important to, and for, the person. These include daily living/life skills development, either in the home or in the community, as well as community participation and inclusion activities.

Essential Criteria:

  • A genuine commitment with demonstrated skills and knowledge working with people experiencing mental illness;
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health or relevant qualifications;
  • Relevant experience in mental health community support;
  • A proven capacity to deal with challenging issues;
  • Highly developed innovative and creative thinking abilities, problem solving abilities, compassion, empathy and professionalism;
  • Ability to be resourceful, creative and adaptable within role boundaries;
  • Understanding of the person-centred approach;
  • Confidentiality and diversity awareness;
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently comfortably;
  • Effective listening skills and ability to share practical information in an appropriate and respectful manner;
  • Ability to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of customers are maintained;

Prerequisites:

  • Current Working with Children Check Card;
  • Current National Police Clearance with 6 months or more currency or willingness to apply for and provide one prior to commencing employment;
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence with no restrictions;
  • Unlimited rights to work in Australia;
  • Current Provide First Aid Certificate with 6 months or more currency
