Veteran Services Officer, Pensions and Welfare - Ipswich
About Us
For over 100 years, RSL Queensland has been here to help-supporting the brave men and women who have served our country, and honouring the memory of the fallen. While our services and programs have grown, and we've embraced innovation, our mission remains: to support ADF personnel and their families, and to change their lives for the better. This is an exciting time in RSL Queensland's history. As part of an organisational transformation, we're implementing new initiatives that meet the needs of younger veterans and today's defence family. As part of this evolution, we're looking for a Veteran Services Officer with a focus on Pensions and Welfare to join our team.
About the Role
Reporting to the Regional Co-ordinator, the main responsibilities of a Veteran Services Officer is to provide pension and claims support, including researching and establishing military and medical history, establishing legislative and DVA requirements for claims, writing comprehensive notes, and preparing and lodging claims on behalf of clients. A smaller portion of the role will include welfare support, including emergency support and visiting veterans in hospital or aged care facilities.
About You
To be successful in this position you will need:
- Relevant ATDP training qualifications and equivalent experience (desirable)
- Ability to show empathy and work in highly sensitive environments and situations
- Sound understanding of the ADF environment and its unique sensitivities (desirable)
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the veteran community (desirable)
- Proven ability to understand and interpret complex legislation and compile in-depth research
- Ability to build and maintain good relationships both internally and externally to RSL (Queensland Branch)
- Demonstrated attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in working directly with veterans and their families
- Queensland C class driver's license
You'll be joining an experienced and motivated Veteran Services team who are passionate about the service they deliver. The Veterans Services Division is integral to the organisation's ability to achieve our mission. The Veterans Services team provides advice and assistance to individual members and their families for services related to the research, preparation and submission of applications for support regarding Service related conditions, representation at the Veterans' Review Board and/or Administrative Appeals Tribunal. VSO's also provide emergency, emotional and social support, hospital visits and funeral services.
