The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals NSW is Australia's preeminent animal welfare organisation. We provide a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. RSPCA NSW is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with dedicated staff located throughout NSW to care for animals.

Our Volunteer Support Services team is now looking for a Volunteer Manager (Sydney). The Volunteer Manager is responsible and accountable for all volunteer services, including developing policies and procedures.

This position is a full-time position based in Yagoona. The successful candidate must be able to work occasional weekends and after hours.

Role responsibilities:

  • Recruitment responsibilities such as attraction, retention, and replacement
  • Developing position descriptions for each volunteer role
  • Developing, evaluating, and managing a volunteer induction process
  • Arranging training and education opportunities
  • Conducting ongoing skills audits and organisational reviews
  • Developing and promoting innovative ways to recognise and reward volunteer efforts
  • Managing volunteer communications such as social functions, newsletters and/or social media
  • Developing and managing policies, procedures and standards for volunteers
  • Managing the volunteer database, associated budgets, and expenditure
  • Resolving conflict and managing the grievance process
  • Leading branch monthly and annual general meetings, attending events and promotions
  • Providing high level monthly reports to the Executive Manager Volunteer Support Services
  • Assisting with the strategy and direction of branch and support team fundraising activities and ensuring they meet industry best practice
  • Identifying and implementing systems, polices and processes which will improve financial monitoring, accountability and growth
  • Upholding WHS standards, including maintaining, developing, and implementing policies and processes

Selection criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant area
  • Significant experience managing people, budgets, and resources (minimum 5 years)
  • Leadership experience in developing teams and driving reform programs
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting and financial management
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking people related processes (for instance recruitment, performance management)
  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic and operational analysis, planning and decision-making
  • Demonstrated experience with change management
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings, conduct effective consultations with volunteers, community groups and organisations, government agencies, service providers and staff
  • Strong strategic planning and policy development skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to deliver exceptional results, on time and within budget to meet identified program requirements
