Dementia Australia is the new voice of Alzheimer’s Australia, and the peak body representing the interests of people with dementia, their families and carers.

We are currently seeking an experienced health professional to join our organisation in the role of a Dementia Advisor based in Perth. The Dementia Advisor is responsible for the delivery of dementia specific information and awareness activities to the community plus the co-facilitation of group programs with partner organisations to people with dementia and their carers. In addition, this role will provide education workshops in the delivery of the Dementia Friendly Communities (DFC) program. Some travel to regional areas of Western Australia will be required.
 

In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing information about dementia, available services and resources to people diagnosed with dementia, their families/carers, health and community support services and the wider community
  • Plan and coordinate program delivery to achieve identified goals within time constraints
  • Accept and manage referrals from a range of sources, including the National Dementia Helpline and offer advice and support to carers, referring onto other support services including partner groups as appropriate
  • Assist with public awareness events and information displays

 

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in health or social service related disciplines.
  2. Demonstrated experience of working with people with dementia and carers and families.
  3. Demonstrated high level of verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
  4. Proven capacity to problem solve and negotiate with others.
  5. Demonstrated ability to network with, consult and respond to the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders.
  6. Group facilitation skills.
  7. Public speaking and presentation skills.
  8. Availability to work Thursdays, on an occasional basis.  
     

To be successful in this position, you will have tertiary qualifications in health or social service related disciplines. You will also meet the selection criteria found in the position description and show an absolute commitment to the delivery of high quality dementia services and support.
