Barwon Child, Youth & Family (BCYF) is an independent, not-for-profit community service organisation that provides, delivers and develops services, where the need exists, that advance the rights and well-being of children, young people and their families.

BCYF has a breadth of services ranging from prevention and early intervention, to complex care, which are delivered via a significant client services platform. BCYF is also the parent company of its subsidiary 'BAYSA', a registered housing provider of a range of accommodation and community support programs.

About the Role

The Stronger Families Caseworker will promote family preservation whilst ensuring safety of all family members. The role will support families to address key protective concerns that place their children at risk of entering the Out of Home Care Service, or will support families to have their children returned to their care.

The key objectives of this role are to:

  • Apply a case management model to a family in order to increase parental capacity to care well for children
  • Focus on the child's safety, stability, health, development and learning.
  • Ensure that interventions are guided by evidence based practices.
  • Provide a range of tailored interventions to the targeted cohort in line with the Best Interests Framework.

About You

We are seeking applicants that meet the following criteria:

  • Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Welfare Studies, Alcohol and Other Drugs or related field
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex cases with strong case practice including client advocacy, counselling, therapeutic interventions and family support in line with the Best Interest Framework
  • Demonstrated skills in risk and needs assessments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the factors that can impact on a parent’s ability to care for children and knowledge of the service system and resources available that can support parents, children and young people
  • Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.
