About the Role

Are you an Allied Health Professional or Early Childhood Teacher with experience of ASD? Then this could be the role for you!

Based in our Education Support & Therapy Services team, the purpose of this position as Allied Health Professional or Early Childhood Teacher is to deliver parent-child group programs to enhance the participation and quality of life of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental delays and disorders. 

Together with the Talk to Learn Coordinator, the Program Facilitator will deliver parent-child group programs, provide information, modelling and coaching support to parents and carers of children 0-12 years with autism and other developmental delays or disorders.

The role will include (but not limited to) liaising with external community and mainstream providers to facilitate linkage of parents and their children to community and mainstream activities and services, assisting in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for children in all areas used by Autism Australia, providing general support to the Talk to Learn Program as needed e.g. administrative tasks, preparation of group resources, and leading the Group in the absence of the Group Leader, as required.

This is a term-time only, part-time position at 1 day per week for a fixed term until July 2020, with our Education Support & Therapy Services team. The role is 40 weeks per year. This position will involve some travel within the local region from Inverell to locations such as Moree, Tenterfield and Narrabri or Armidale.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in an Allied Health profession or Early Childhood teaching.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Allied Health professional or Early Childhood Teacher
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of contemporary and evidence-based methodologies in the provision of intervention services to children with ASD or other developmental challenges, and their families
  • Proven knowledge of child development, communication, social interaction, learning and understanding and managing behaviour
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an inter-disciplinary and/or trans-disciplinary team
  • Excellent interaction and communication skills with children and parents, especially when teaching and instructing parents/carers.
