About Us:

At Anglicare Victoria our focus is on transforming the futures of children and young people, families and adults. Our work is based on three guiding pillars, Prevent, Protect, Empower. We offer a comprehensive network of services and seek to ensure the provision of high quality services that will bring about significant improvements in the life experience of the young people, children and families/caregivers with whom we work.

The Position:

Anglicare Victoria’s TEACHaR Program is seeking to employ a qualified primary or secondary school teacher from the wider Shepparton area who is passionate about working with complex and ‘at risk’ young people.  The successful applicant will work with young people living in Residential Care settings to teach literacy, numeracy and academic skills, strengthen school engagement and participation and develop more positive attitudes towards learning and formal education. The role also requires working in a broader context with schools, case managers and other professionals to advocate for and develop education plans to support the complex needs of this cohort. The role requires a flexible and creative approach to engaging young people in learning.  A demonstrated knowledge of the impact of trauma on learning will be an advantage, as will experience with the Out of Home Care and Child Protection sectors.  This is a one year contract and offers attractive remuneration and salary packaging.

To Be Successful in this Position You Will Need:

  • Relevant experience and competence in the field of Education.

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in working with disadvantaged children and young people.

  • Demonstrated understanding of how trauma affects a child or young person’s learning.

  • Understanding and experience of flexible learning approaches and how these can be specifically targeted to disadvantaged children and young people.

  • High level written and verbal communication skills, including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with children and young people, families where relevant, carers and other professionals involved in the child or young person’s care team.

  • Capacity to identify and facilitate specific educational assessments and plans for individual children/young people who have experienced significant educational disruption and who present with complex psychological and social needs.

  • Current VIT Registration

Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
