About the School of Engineering

The School of Engineering is committed to excellence in research, learning & teaching, and industry engagement. We offer an integrated cross-disciplinary engineering program with specialisations in electronics, electrical, communication systems, mechatronics and mechanical engineering. The School has a strong learning and teaching culture.  We encourage a scholarly approach to learning and teaching with the integration of industry relevant skills throughout the degree program.

The Role 

The Successful Research Fellow will collaborate with the CSIRO Macquarie University Chair in Wireless Communications, Prof Stephen Hanly, Prof Iain Collings and Dr Philip Whiting, on a project funded by the Australian Research Council on mm-wave mobile broadband communications. The project aims to develop novel resource allocation algorithms and network architectures for future mm-wave wireless communication networks, and fundamentally characterise the practical information carrying capacity. More information about the project can be obtained from Prof. Hanly or Prof Iain Collings. There is a research plan that will guide the research but there is considerable scope for the Research Fellow to take a leadership role.

The project will include information-theoretic and probabilistic analysis, and practical engineering implementation constraints. The expected outcome will be new cellular architectures and massive MIMO mm-wave beamforming technologies that unlock the spectrum by enabling secure outdoor mobile cellular deployments with wide-spread coverage.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this position applications must respond to the selection criteria below and attach as a separate document in the application process.

• A doctoral degree in a relevant field to the research project (eg. Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Mathematics in the area of applied probability)
• A quality research record as evidenced by research publications in high quality international conferences and journals
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with a track record using applied probability in research work
• Experience with software packages such as Matlab
• Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and the ability to work to deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Commitment and ability to work with graduate and research students
• Good knowledge of the field of communication theory and information theory

Salary Package: from $90,188 - $96,655 p.a. (Level A step 6), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
